Thought Industries LMS review: Academy, Lens, pricing and fit
Thought Industries is a Boston customer education platform. Its LMS, now called Academy, is built for training customers and partners and for selling courses, and it sits alongside a newer AI product called Lens.
Short answer
Thought Industries is a strong choice if you are a software or services company that trains customers and partners at scale, needs separate branded portals per audience, and wants learning tied to Salesforce, Zendesk and customer success numbers. It is less suited if your main audience is members or staff, you need an AMS integration, or you want a published price. For associations and budget-conscious teams, MyPass LMS is the closer fit.

Who Thought Industries fits
A good fit if you
- Run a customer academy for a software or services product and measure its effect on adoption and renewals
- Need separate branded portals for different customers, partners or business units from one admin
- Sell courses, certifications, bundles or subscriptions to external learners
- Want learning data in Salesforce and support content connected to Zendesk
Look elsewhere if you
- Are an association that needs course access driven by your AMS membership records
- Mainly train your own employees and want a simple internal LMS
- Need a published price or a self-hosted option before talking to sales
What Thought Industries is
Thought Industries was founded in 2013 and is headquartered in Boston. It built its name on external training: customer education, partner enablement and professional learning that companies often sell. That is still the core of the product, but the company now describes its offering as a Customer Knowledge AI Platform with two parts.
Academy is the learning management system: courses, learning paths, assessments, certifications, live training and a course storefront. Lens is a newer product that connects your existing knowledge sources, such as help centers and docs, and answers customer questions through governed AI agents. The pitch is that a course, a help article and an AI answer should never disagree.
A defining Academy feature is Panoramas: separate branded portals, each with its own content, licensing and look, all managed from one account. That suits companies that train many client organizations or partner tiers. If you are searching for "Thought Industries LMS", Academy is the product you are looking at.
Key features
Panoramas (branded audience portals)
Give each client, partner group or business unit its own branded academy. The number of Panoramas is set by plan: 3 on Starter, 10 on Professional, 25 on Enterprise.
Course commerce
A storefront with Stripe checkout, subscriptions, group subscriptions and bulk team purchasing on Professional and Enterprise. Avalara handles sales tax.
Assessments, certifications, live training
Assessments and certifications, plus instructor-led and virtual sessions, on every plan. Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, GoTo and Adobe Connect are listed integrations.
AI course creation
Generate courses, quizzes and visuals with AI on all Academy plans. Conversational AI learning is billed per query.
Business system integrations
Salesforce for learner activity in the CRM, Zendesk for support content, plus Credly, OpenSesame, Segment, Zapier and Google Analytics. API, webhooks and SFTP are an add-on on Professional and included on Enterprise.
Lens knowledge agents
A separate product that pulls from your help center and docs and answers customer questions, with usage-based plans and a free tier.
Thought Industries pricing
Academy pricing is not published. The pricing page says it is "priced around your program, not a price list" and you book a demo to size a plan. According to Thought Industries, the quote depends on how many customers and partners you train, how many audiences you serve, and whether you sell courses.
The page does show the plan structure. Starter covers up to 500 learners and 3 Panoramas, Professional up to 2,000 learners and 10 Panoramas, and Enterprise up to 5,000 learners and 25 Panoramas. Commerce, full design control and separate SSO per audience start at Professional. Custom reports, a BI connector and the API are add-ons on Professional and included on Enterprise.
Lens has published prices: a Free plan at $0 (1 seat, 100 interactions a month), Pro at $499 a month, Pro+ at $999 a month, and custom Enterprise pricing. No free trial of Academy is advertised.
Pros and cons

Thought Industries questions, answered
What is Thought Industries LMS?
Thought Industries LMS is the Academy product from Thought Industries, a Boston company founded in 2013. It is a learning management system for training customers, partners and other external audiences, with branded portals called Panoramas, course commerce, assessments, certifications and live training. It now sits alongside Lens, an AI product that answers customer questions from your knowledge sources.
How much does Thought Industries cost?
Academy pricing is not published. Thought Industries quotes based on how many customers and partners you train, how many audiences you serve and whether you sell courses. Plans are Starter (up to 500 learners), Professional (up to 2,000) and Enterprise (up to 5,000). The separate Lens product has a free plan, then $499 or $999 a month.
What is the difference between Thought Industries Academy and Lens?
Academy is the LMS: courses, learning paths, assessments, certifications and a storefront. Lens connects your help center, docs and other knowledge sources and answers customer questions through AI agents. They are sold separately on the same platform, and Academy content can be one of the sources Lens draws from.
Can you sell courses with Thought Industries?
Yes. The Professional and Enterprise plans include a course storefront with Stripe checkout, subscriptions, group subscriptions and bulk team purchasing, and Avalara is listed for sales tax. The Starter plan does not include commerce, so if selling courses is part of your plan, expect to price Professional or higher.
Does Thought Industries integrate with Salesforce and Zendesk?
Yes. Its integrations page lists Salesforce, to bring learner activity into your CRM, and Zendesk, to connect support tickets and learning content. It also lists Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex, GoTo, Adobe Connect, Stripe, Credly, OpenSesame and Zapier. API, webhooks and SFTP are an add-on on Professional and included on Enterprise.
Is Thought Industries a good LMS for associations?
It lists member education as a use case and handles course sales and certifications well. What its integrations page does not show is a connection to association management systems such as iMIS or Fonteva. If member records should drive enrollment and pricing, compare an LMS that integrates with your AMS directly, such as MyPass LMS.
