Courses and learning paths
Build courses, upload SCORM packages and group them into role-based paths with prerequisites.
Community Edition is the free, open core of MyPass LMS. Download it, run it on a Windows machine you control and add as many learners as you need. No license key, no per-seat fees and no time limit. You run the server; the software costs nothing.

Community Edition is the same MyPass LMS that hosted customers use. You host it, and that is the difference. Here is what you can run on day one. The full list is on the features page.
Build courses, upload SCORM packages and group them into role-based paths with prerequisites.
Certificates are issued when a learner completes, with expiry dates and recertification reminders.
Question banks, timed exams, essay grading and surveys, recorded on each learner's record.
See progress, completions and certifications across every learner, and export to Excel.
Organize learners into groups and roles and enroll them by role, department or group.
The database is your MySQL. Configuration and uploads stay in the install folder you chose.
One ZIP, no installer. Unzip it, double-click start.cmd, and a browser-based setup wizard connects your database, sets up email and creates the first administrator.
The software is the same either way. What you pay for with a hosted plan is the work around it: servers, email, storage, backups, upgrades and security. Be honest about who on your team will carry that before you choose.

Still deciding? Self-hosted vs managed LMS hosting walks through the real costs of each.
First start takes about a minute. The setup wizard opens in your browser on its own.
Verify your email on the download page, get the Windows bundle and check it against the published SHA-256 checksum.
Everything MyPass creates, including configuration and uploads, stays inside that folder.
C:\KpriseJava 17 is used if installed, or downloaded once if not. Your browser then opens the setup wizard.
start.cmdCreate an empty database, enter its details in the wizard and finish. MyPass restarts and you are in.
CREATE DATABASE mypass;MyPass is open-core. The complete learning platform is free to run yourself. What Kprise sells is the optional layer on top: running it for you, keeping it secure, backing it up and answering when you need help.
That is different from a typical open source LMS, where hosting and support come from whoever you can find. Here the people who build the product also run it, so moving from your own server to a hosted plan does not mean changing platforms. Open-core vs open source LMS explains the trade-offs.
Why give the core away? We wrote it down in why we made our LMS free.

From KpriseThe thinking behind Community Edition.
Yes. Community Edition costs $0 to download and run, with no license key, no per-seat fees and no time limit. It is not a trial. Your costs are the server, MySQL database and email service you run it on, plus the time it takes to maintain them. You only pay Kprise if you want us to host it for you.
With an open-core LMS, the core platform is free to run yourself, and the company that builds it sells an optional paid layer on top. For MyPass, that layer is managed hosting, security, backups and support. With a typical open source LMS, you arrange hosting, upgrades and support yourself or through third parties.
The Windows bundle needs Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), a MySQL database you can reach, either local or on a service like Amazon RDS, and a current Chrome, Edge or Firefox for the setup wizard. Java 17 is downloaded automatically on first start if it is not already installed. macOS and Linux bundles are coming soon.
As many as you need. Community Edition has no cap on registered users and no per-seat licensing, the same as every MyPass plan. How many people can use it at the same time depends on the server you run it on, so size your hardware for your busiest day, such as a renewal deadline.
Everything around the software: the server, the MySQL database, outbound email, file storage, backups, upgrades, SSL and security patching. Help comes from the community forum rather than a support team. If you would rather not carry that work, the Shared and Private Hosting plans have Kprise run it for you.
Yes. Community Edition and the hosted plans run the same MyPass LMS platform, so you can start on your own server and ask Kprise to take over hosting, backups and support later. Hosted plans start at $79 per month billed annually, and each one comes with a 15-day free trial with no credit card.
Download Community Edition for Windows, unzip it and start it. The setup wizard opens in your browser. If you would rather not run a server, start a free hosted trial instead, or book a demo and we will walk you through both.
